Create Color Customizations

Discover Color!

Are you bored working with the same red and pink cosmetic colors day after day? Do you want something new, wild, or unique for your brand?

Choosing colors can be one of the most important choices you make when starting your private label cosmetics brand, and the 21st Century has offered bold new options in terms of what is socially acceptable to your customers.

It is not unusual at all these days to walk down the street and see women with multi-colored hair and blue lips.

Or maybe you just have a unique vision you want to see achieved but have no idea where to start. One thing we can tell you for sure: you are not limited to the colors you see listed in our catalog or in the catalogs of other companies.

Introduce yourself to the world of custom colorization and unleash your wildest color dreams.

At Genie Supply, we pride ourselves in making your dreams a reality, no matter how wild they may seem. Be bold. Be different. The sky is the limit, and we are here to help.

Want to know more about how custom colorization works at Genie Supply? Let’s begin by taking a look at the steps to making your color fantasies into actualities.

Step 1: Send Us a Sample

Although it is possible to work with an online image or a hex code, this isn’t recommended. Colors may display differently depending on the device you’re using (iPhone, android, etc.), which means your best bet is to send us something physical to emulate.

Cut something out of a magazine or send us a piece of fabric that matches what you have in mind. Anything that our lab chemists can physically touch will help them more accurately develop the exact color you want.

Step 2: Color Matching in the Lab

Once our lab technicians have your sample, they will begin the color matching process by using a spectrophotometer. What’s that, you ask? Check out the video below for more information.

What’s important to note is that colors can change depending on the light used to view them in or the surface they are put on. It’s a lot like picking paint for your house. You may think the color looks great on a glossy page, but it may look completely different on your wall.

Not to worry. Our lab chemists already know this, and the process they use takes this into consideration. They will begin with an objective analysis (does the color match in a neutral situation) and then move on to a subjective analysis (how does the color change in different situations).

When chemists do color matching, they are looking at 5 factors: Lightness to darkness (L), red to green (R), blue to yellow (B), chromaticity – the quality of color, independent of brightness (C), and the hue (H).

They use the spectrophotometer to measure your sample in comparison with the one they come up with in the lab. If the 3-dimensional difference between the two is acceptable (a distance no greater than 2), it is considered a good match.

For a more in depth look at the process of color matching, take a look at this informative guide from Pantone.

What about shimmer?

Yes, we can absolutely add a shimmer to your color to give it an even more distinctive look. To accomplish this, a synthetic (or real) mica is added in the mix, which can make the color shimmer or even change colors when it reflects in light. Traditional mica and bismuth oxychloride add a basic shimmer or metallic tone to colors.

Synthetic micas, however, can make blue appear green or red appear purple. Not to mention, the synthetic mica used in shimmers is much safer and more organic than the tiny particles of plastic used in glitter. How cool is that?

Step 3: Customer Approval

Once our lab has created a good match for your custom color, we will send you a sample. If you approve, we can get started on your custom color line right away. If not, we will work with you to tweak the color in the lab to meet your specifications.

But of course, you are wondering – how much is this going to cost?

Costs and Benefits of Color Customization

To create a custom color with Genie Supply, you will spend $150 for liquid cosmetics (lipglosses or liquid lipsticks) and $300 for non-liquid cosmetics (lipsticks and balms). This is a one-time fee to create a sample for you, and you will not be charged again unless you decide to develop another new color.

Why the difference? Non-liquid cosmetics require hot pouring into a mold, which can alter the color from start to finish. This means a little extra work for our chemists in order to create the exact color you want. Is it worth it? We think so.

Consider the following benefits of creating a custom color with Genie Supply:

  • One-time fees for custom color sample

  • We won’t share your color with any other customer, which means your brand will always have exclusive use of it

  • Experts who work for you and your brand

  • Stand out in the crowd: unique colors mean unique branding for your company

  • Re-order the same color at any time with no additional fees
