Hemp Beauty Is Not CBD Beauty

With so many wholesale hemp beauty products on the market, it’s easy to get confused about which ones are right for you and your customers. But wait - Are you looking for wholesale hemp beauty products or for wholesale CBD beauty products? What’s the difference between hemp beauty and CBD beauty anyway?

More importantly, why is it so difficult to find the right wholesale hemp beauty product? Maybe this is because the difference between hemp and CBD beauty isn’t so clear. Let’s dive in to find out the difference!

What is the difference between Hemp and CBD Beauty Products?

CBD comes from hemp, but hemp is not necessarily CBD. (It’s like squares vs. rectangles)

Hemp seed oil can only be extracted from the seeds themselves and contains 0% THC and only trace amounts of CBD or other cannabinoids.

CBD, on the other hand, comes from the flowers, leaves, and stems of the hemp plant (source). Although they are close relatives, CBD can do things for beauty products that hemp seed oil cannot, including lowering inflammation and possibly even reducing pain (source).

So What does CBD Do in Beauty?

While we can guarantee your customers will not get “high” off any wholesale hemp beauty product we offer, items with CBD or THC offer an array of additional benefits to skin care that hemp seed oil alone cannot match.

Discover more in depth information about CBD products, their legal regulations, and why they might be right for your clients here. We have many wholesale hemp beauty products to choose from, including skin care items, color cosmetics, and even pet shampoo and conditioner!

Why Is Hemp vs. CBD so Confusing? It all comes down to labeling…

According to the FDA, much of the reason for all the confusion has to do with mislabeling. The biggest problem is that some sellers use the very loose term “hemp oil” in their labeling, which can theoretically encompass any number of hemp by-products, including hemp seed oil and CBD.

Therefore, while you might think you have found a wholesale hemp beauty product that contains CBD or THC, it may instead only contain hemp seed oil.

Increasingly, consumers are becoming more interested in wholesale hemp beauty products that do contain CBD or THC, which makes it all the more important to know exactly what you are spending your money on. After conducting studies on wholesale hemp beauty products between 2014 and 2019, the FDA found that over 46% of products labeled as having “hemp oil” contained no cannabinoids whatsoever.

On the flip side, they also discovered that at least 2% of those claiming to not include cannabinoids actually did contain either CBD or THC. In addition, about 28% labeled the CBD amount inaccurately, 29% contained THC that was not mentioned at all on the labelling, and 2 tested products were even found to have 120% more CBD than advertised.

No wonder it’s so hard to feel confident about finding quality wholesale hemp beauty products! This is precisely why our 3rd party Certificate of Analysis is so important to our clients. It takes all the insecurities about buying wholesale hemp beauty products off your shoulders.

Wait - Is Hemp Seed Oil Beauty Worthless, Then?

This is not to say that there is anything wrong with wholesale hemp beauty products that contain only hemp seed oil. Like other emollients, hemp seed oil can help with things like dry skin, atopic dermatitis, and can even serve as a fairly good anti-aging emulsion (source).

It is also rich in omega-6 and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (source). Therefore, it pairs wonderfully with CBD and THC as an additional ingredient. But, if wholesale hemp beauty products using only hemp seed oil interest you, Genie Supply can certainly create custom items for your beauty line. In fact, we thrive on customizations!

However, it is important to note that, while hemp seed oil has its benefits, it is really no better nor worse than other standard moisturizing ingredients. It is easy to see why labeling wholesale hemp beauty products as having simply “hemp oil” might be deceptive.

The next very obvious question would be: but what kind of “hemp oil”? Is it hemp seed oil or CBD/THC oil? At Genie Supply, we not only offer a clear-cut answer to that with every item we offer – we also give you a breakdown on how much CBD and THC we include in each wholesale hemp beauty product, down to the exact percentages in each batch!
